I think it's technically West Lake, TX and the 04 NOAC was at Iowa State, not Michigan State.

This is a great analysis of a tough issue. I too have experienced the positive impact of Scouting, but also oppose their "bigoted anti-gay policy". This solution is a good one. I also agree with Jo’s suggestion. Our society is based on shopping with our dollars; what better way to do this than to tell the BSA what we would do if they changed their policy.

Interesting thought... it could also be interesting to explore ways to organize and crowd-source that idea without making it look like blackmail:

Imagine if people could go to a website and officially pledge a certain amount of money IF the BSA changes its membership policy. Dangerously close to the textbook definition of blackmail but I imagine it could possibly be effective if dressed in a particular manner.

Yours is a great idea, though! Will keep in mind if the opportunity presents itself.

Well said. That was the part of it all I enjoyed the most - there's a heck of a lot of good or evil you can inflict on another person under the label of "prosecutorial discretion".

For those reading who don't know the Scout lingo, OA (Order of the Arrow), COC (Council of Chiefs), CVC (Conclave Vice Chief). One of my pet peeves in Scouting is all the acronyms. :)

Congrats on the job Ross! Somehow in law school I didn't see you going this path, but I think you will be great at it. I loved my time with the DOJ doing prosecutorial type work. Good luck.
