Damon’s New Blog, Nevada’s Low Taxes, Ballot Initiatives Mixed Day in Court

Damon’s New Blog: Northern Nevada’s best political reporter moved from the Reno Gazette Journal to the Las Vegas Sun recently and so Inside Nevada Politics is now a distant memory.  Have no fear though, Damon has a new blog up on the Sun’s website with some already great posts.  It is called the Damon Political Report.  In today’s post, Heller distances himself from Angle.

Nevada’s Low Taxes:  A new study finds Nevada’s tax burden is near the bottom of the list.  Perhaps this is also why we are at the bottom of all thoses lists that rank services like education.  Also, it makes me wonder how Rory Reid intends to make Nevada’s education system competitive with his reported Gibbons “no new taxes” pledge.

Ballot Initiatives Mixed Day in Court: A Federal Judge has ruled that Nevada’s initiative requirements based on Congressional Districts are valid while making those who collect signatures swear under oath as to the validity of the signer’s status as a registered voter are too stringent.  The second part makes sense as you don’t want to put those collecting signatures in legal trouble just because they didn’t check every signature against the voter rolls; that is the Secretary of State’s job.
